Kids' Braids

Braiding a child's hair is a different craft from braiding an adult's. A four-year-old cannot sit still for six hours, cannot tell you that a part is too tight until it already hurts, and will remember a painful appointment long enough to fight you about the next one. Everything here is built around that reality.

We work in low tension throughout. Parts are sectioned with a comb rather than pulled, the hairline is left deliberately soft, and the braid is anchored on the strand rather than cinched against the scalp. If your daughter flinches, we stop and adjust. Nothing about the style is worth a child learning to dread the chair.

Appointments are paced with breaks built in. Kids can watch something, snack, and stretch. Parents are welcome to stay in the room the entire time, and we would rather you did.

What's included

  • A short consultation about your child's hair, scalp sensitivity and how the last style held up
  • Gentle sectioning and detangling before any braiding begins
  • Pre-stretched, anti-bacterial hair for every added-hair style
  • Beads, cuffs or accessories chosen with your child
  • Breaks throughout, paced to your child rather than the clock
  • Aftercare instructions for keeping the style neat between visits

How the appointment runs

  1. 1

    We talk first

How tender is her scalp, what has hurt before, how long the style needs to last, and what she actually wants. Kids get a say in their own hair.

  2. 2

    Detangle and section

Hair is worked through in sections from the ends up. This is the step most rushed appointments skip, and it is the step that decides whether braid day hurts.

  3. 3

    Braid at low tension

Parts are clean but never dragged. Added hair is fed in gradually so weight builds along the braid instead of pulling at the root.

  4. 4

    Finish and check

Beads or cuffs go on, the hairline gets softened, and we check with your child that nothing feels tight before she leaves.

Questions about kids' braids

What age do you start braiding children?

We braid children 4 and up. Around four, most kids can manage the sitting time with breaks, and can tell us when something feels uncomfortable, which matters more than anything else.

My daughter is extremely tender-headed. Can she still get braids?

Yes, and it is most of what we do. Knotless braids are usually the right starting point because there is no knot cinched at the root. We also keep parts larger and tension lower for sensitive scalps.

Can I stay during the appointment?

Please do. Parents staying in the room helps younger children settle, and it means you can see exactly how the style is being installed.

How long will the style last?

Most protective styles for kids hold 2 to 4 weeks depending on the style, her hair texture, and how the style is wrapped at night. Individual style pages list the expected wear.

Do you offer mobile service?

Yes, mobile service is available in Henry County. Mention it when you book so we can confirm scheduling and travel.
